The Oregon Coast: Past And Present

A week ago I went to the coast for the first time in over a year and a half. That might not seem like a long time, but it felt like several years. Pandemic time moves differently than ‘normal’ time. It was nice to finally try out my wetsuit and body board in the cold Pacific Ocean. This recent trip wasn’t for photography, but I managed to stop at a popular roadside view at sunset and take a few shots of “The Four Brothers” in the Siletz Bay near Lincoln City. It is our equivalent to the “Lone Tree” in California, only there is not a copyright.

I love the Oregon coast. I lived there for the first few years of my life. I could reminisce about the good ‘ole days, when the beaches were less crowded and the coastal towns struggled to make any money. I’m glad that they can survive off of tourism now. I would be happier with less traffic accidents and beach trash to pick up, but I am only a visitor now. There is an interesting Ursula Le Guin book about the old Oregon coast called Sea Road.

I’ve put together some recent and past photographs of the beach and coast in Oregon.
